Maker Faire 2014

This years Maker Faire was totally awesome.  If you have no idea what the fair is about here is a little recap on things you should know before going.

1.  Buy your tickets in advance.  They are not cheap.  A one day pass at the door is $40/adult and $25/child.  Keep your eyes open for a Groupon deal.

2.  Parking is insane.  If you can get there any other way besides a car, it is a must.  The faire takes up a good portion of the parking lot, which leaves little room for it's guests.  We arrived exactly at 10am and it took us an hour to find parking!

3.  The Maker Faire is truly about making.  If you are interested in science, art, technology, etc.  then this is definitely the place for you and your kids.  Every booth is hands on.  This year we made rocket ships and got to launch them into the sky, make wooden cars we can race against other designers, rip apart old computers to see what they are made of and so much more.  The only issue I had was that my kids were five years and under, so it was quite difficult to make most of the things I just mentioned.  I would highly recommend this fair for kids 6 and up.  They would love it and can do most of the projects on their own.

4.  The food.  It was your typical fair food, nothing like Off the Grid (spoiled).  I would just brown bag it if you can.

5.  The must see spot is the Dark Room.  It's basically a dark room with fun visuals.  They had a light forrest, floating jelly fish and other light exhibits.  Another must see spot is the San Francisco Bazzar tent where you will find our friends like Le Petit Elefant, Poppyhearts and Tofufu selling all their handmade goodies.

6.  Last but not least, before you go check the program and schedules.  This will tell you who the guest speakers will be and events going on throughout the two days.  Always plan ahead!

Featuring... Genevieve Santos

This month we are featuring our local artist Genevieve Santos aka Le Petit Elefant!  She's been a great supporter of our studio and was one of the first artists to sell at our store.  If this is the first time you are seeing her work don't fret, you can catch up by following her on Facebook, Twitter and her blog. If that isn't enough for you, check out your local craft fair and I am pretty sure you will meet her in person.

Last week she popped into our studio to replenish her inventory.  Yay for us!  Here are some of the goodies we received and our top picks.

1. Knitting a Scarf Print // 2. Clink Print // 3. I Spy a Narwhal Print // 4. Sweet Tooth Thank You Cards

Genevieve at the studio!

We caught up with Genevieve the next day at the Maker Faire!  Isn't her booth adorbs?

Fun Friday Faves - Staying Hydrated

This year our New Year's resolution in our studio was to drink more water.  We started the new year strong by starting with 20 oz. a day.  Yes, I said 20 oz. (hence the New Year's challenge).  After a week we started feeling different and looking different.  Our skin started looking better and we felt more energized. Of course as the months wore on, we fell off the bandwagon.  So, this weeks Fun Friday Faves is an ode to the water bottles.  Our thoughts are, if our water bottles were cute, then we would carry them around more.  This is what we found thanks to the ladies visiting our studio.

1.  BKR - Super cute glass bottles with a silicone sleeve.  They come in all different colors and they seriously don't break.  Mom's bring them into our studio with their kids and that my friend is a true test. Oh and do I need to mention this was designed and created by two moms??!

2.  Contigo - This is one of my favorite brands.  I love this brand because they have kid bottles that my kids can actually use on their own.  This particular bottle is great for us adults because it has a secret compartment for our essentials.  This is useful for when you are going to the park, watching your kids games or doing an activity where you don't want to leave your purse around.

3.  Zing Anything - Another favorite here at our studio.  We love this bottle because we can add natural flavors to our water instead of powders and processed sugars.  Adding that little extra means more ounces to our intake!

Fun Friday Faves

We thought it would be a great idea to feature some or our favorite finds every Friday.  I must write a disclaimer that even though the pictures are BEAUTIFUL, the projects don't always turn out.  At our studio we have run into our fair share of DIY fails.  Those pictures will be saved for another blog post. =)

Happy Friday and enjoy!

1. OKER blog  - Simple dot tags, turn garland! Great idea for parties!

2.  Project Nursery - We love Pantone drawers.  If you ever visit our studio try and find our Pantone drawers. Hint (you have to look up).

3.  Brit + Co. - We love making our own cell phone cases too!  We've done this at our studio and it is so fun and you can't stop at making just one!
